Economic stability is main agenda for Bandar Kuching BN candidate

KUCHING, May 3 (Bernama) -- BN candidate for Bandar Kuching Kho Teck Wan, 42, who is also Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Women's chief knows she is the underdog in the tussle for the parliamentary seat but she remains calm and collected.

Met here recently at one of her election campaign, the Kuching South City councillor said her main agenda was to stabilise the economy of the city dwellers particularly women, regardless of their political affiliation.

"Not all city dwellers have fixed and good income. It's the responsibility of the people's representative to ensure that none of them is exempted from getting appropriate assistance."

"As a city councillor, I participated in various community activities and it is through these that I learned about the problems of the people, such as financial burden among parents who could ill afford to pay for their children's education expenses," she said.

Kho said her first step would be to identify the target group, and provide them assistance, particularly the women who were forced to work and support their families.

She said she would set up a special team of women who would champion the rights and find ways to resolve the issues faced by city women.

"As a mother, I feel sad at seeing needy children, who had to leave school because of the pressures of life and financial dilemma. Hence I want to do the best for these children in line with the progress we are enjoying," she said.

Kho will face Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, 31, of DAP for the seat in GE14. Both are fresh candidates, contesting for the first time.
