BN will not tolerate UMNO veterans joining opposition campaign - Tengku Adnan

PUTRAJAYA, May 3 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional (BN) will not tolerate with UMNO veterans joining and supporting the opposition's campaign in the 14th General Election (GE14).

UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said, however, the BN would probe into the alleged involvement of UMNO veterans before any action be taken, including the possibility of them being sacked from the party.

"Sometimes they say that they want to attend the event as a friend and not as a politician ... so this is the problem that we are facing because all of us are friends."

"But if they violated the party's code of ethics and constitution then we will take action," he said when met by reporters at the presentation of the 'Ihya Ramadan' aid and letter of appointments to 'amil' (zakat collectors) at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here today.

Tengku Adnan said this when asked to comment on the announcement made by Melaka Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chairman Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin at a political talk in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, last night, on the possibility of Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz to follow the footsteps of former Tun Daim Zainuddin to join the opposition campaign in the GE14.

According to the announcement, the two UMNO veterans would join Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed at his political talk at the Bukit Katil state constituency tomorrow (Friday).
