Ahmad Zahid advises BN party leaders to avoid conflict

SIK, May 4 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today advised BN party leaders at all levels to avoid conflict among themselves and give preference to the interests of the people.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the leaders, by remaining united, would be able to address all the problems of the people and bring progress to their areas of administration.

"The people hate to see leaders quarrel. They want to see unity among the leaders. They want development. So, the leaders must work together as best as they can," he said and cited the example of the BN losing Kedah to the opposition in the past because of disunity and not because the opposition was strong.

Ahmad Zahid, in giving a boost to the BN election campaign in Kedah, addressed a gathering of the people in Sik at Dewan Al Hana here.

Education Minister and Kedah UMNO Liaison Committee deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, BN candidate for the Sik parliamentary seat Dr Mansor Abd Rahman, BN candidate for the Belantek state seat Datuk Mohd Tajuddin Abdullah and BN candidate for the Jeneri state seat Mahadzir Abdul Hamid were also present at the event.

Ahmad Zahid said it was important for the state and the federal governments to be administered by the same party or the people would be left out of the mainstream of development.

"It is difficult to get aid when the state government is held by the opposition such as in Perak at one time. It is difficult to even use a hall that we have built, he said.

The people of Kedah must help Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah to win the election in the state, he said, and expressed confidence that the BN remained strong and would serve as the ruling government after the general election on May 9.

He also said that the people should not believe all kinds of fake news being circulated by irresponsible people on the social media.

"They use various approaches through the social media to create hatred for the government, he said, adding that the Anti-Fake News Act 2018 would help curb this.

Ahmad Zahid also advised the people not to fall prey to the tactics of the opposition, especially the DAP, saying that the opposition was using a common logo to hoodwink the Malays into supporting them.

He said the victorious BN candidates should discharge their duties and responsibilities well for they would be monitored by an independent body that would be set up.

"If the elected representative does not perform in the first year, we will advise him or her to improve. The people will also provide their feedback on the elected representatives, "he said.

Ahmad Zahid also said that the government always gave preference to educators because they were opinion leaders and shaped the future generations with excellence.

He said they should work with the government to enhance the national education system.
