Nancy uses Javanese language in campaign programme
SADONG JAYA, May 4 (Bernama) -- As the campaigning for the 14th General Election entered its seventh day today, the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Batang Sadong parliamentary seat took on a slightly different approach by delivering her speech in one of her campaign rounds using the Javanese language.
During the meet-the-people session in Kampung Sadong Jaya Ulu here, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri who is defending the Batang Sadong parliamentary seat for a third term, drew the attention of the Javanese community in the village with her fluency in the language.
"Aku teko kene gowo pembangunan ninggo riko wong men penak gawek kejo arian (I came here to bring development and to make it easier for all of you to live your daily life).
"Macem-macem wes digawek perintah ninggo rikowong, surau baru, dewan baru karo jeng paling baru saiki, tempat main bol jeng gedi karo apik ninggo wong enom gawek aktiviti (The government has provided various facilities for all of you like a new surau, a new hall and a large futsal pitch for teenagers to spend their leisure time and carry out sports activities), " she said to the applause of over 100 Javanese descendants of the village.
Nancy said the BN government had implemented various infrastructure projects in the constituency for the convenience of the people.
"There is a better road system, and the infrastructure not only provides convenience to the people but also help communities improve their economy. The most obvious example is the construction of the Batang Sadong bridge that brings many benefits and facilitates the people to commute, " she said.
Nancy when met by Bernama after the programme said her election campaign this time around was focusing on several targeted groups.
"When I meet with the targeted group, I will emphasise on the achievement of the BN government so that they can see what the government has done for them, " she added.
Commenting on her approach of campaigning in Javanese, Nancy said she took the move to suit the local situation.
"This area is a Javanese community settlement, this is the art of connecting with the people so I have to learn to adjust to the situation, " said Nancy who also speaks Iban fluently.
