111,702 police personnel eligible for early voting tomorrow - IGP

KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 (Bernama) -- A total of 111,702 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel are eligible for early voting in the 14th General Election (GE14) tomorrow nationwide, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

He said of the total, 5,660 officers and men can cast their ballots at Bukit Aman while the rest at 14 PDRM contingent and police headquarters nationwide.

"In addition, 7,695 retired officers and men will also be involved in the early voting. They are officers and men who have not yet changed their registration status to ordinary voters," he told a press conference at Bukit Aman here today.

He said the officers and men would be voting from 9 am until 5 pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, he said that 5,854 officers and men would be involved in the voting process through the post from today including 20 involved in a peace mission in Sudan.

"The voting process through post has started today involving 1,796 officers and personnel in Bukit Aman while the rest in contingents throughout the country.

Meanwhile, he said that from April 28 to May 3, 860 police reports had been received by PDRM involving GE14, mostly involving mischief.

"So far we have arrested 17 suspects, 15 of them have had their statements taken, while the other two are still detained, involving a case each in Johor and Sabah," he said.

Asked whether police would call up Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in relation to his allegation of sabotage to a plane that was supposed to fly him from Subang to Langkawi on April 27, Mohamad Fuzi said so far PDRM had not taken any statement from Dr Mahathir, but if there was a need PDRM would call up the former prime minister.

The former prime minister who was then about to board the plane to Langkawi for the nomination process for GE14 claimed that the plane might have been sabotaged. He is contesting the Langkawi parliamentary seat for the opposition.

The Malaysian Civil Aviation Authority (CAAM) has rejected the allegation of sabotage on the plane.
