Don't jeopardise Sadok agropolitan area by rejecting BN candidate - Uggah

PAKAN, May 4 (Bernama) -- Voters in the Julau parliamentary constituency should not jeopardise the implementation of the proposed Sadok agropolitan area by rejecting the BN candidate.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the agropolitan was aimed at cultivating huge tract of land within the area which stretches from the Betong to the Sarikei Divisions.

"It is only through having a representative in the government that the proposed project can materialise," he said at a meet-the-people session at Rumah George Chungut in Nanga Nansang here today.

Earlier he also visited another remote longhouse here to drum up support for the BN candidate Datuk Joseph Salang, who is challenged by an Independent, Larry Sng in a straight fight in the 14th General Election.

Also present at the George Chungut's longhouse was Pakan state assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan.

Uggah said the state government was now in the process of investigating soil types within the 400,000-hectare agropolitan area.

"This will enable us to determine the best type of land use whether to plant rubber, oil palm and so forth.

"This is a very important gigantic project to uplift the people's living standard through coming up with suitable economic activities to generate income, in the current underdeveloped areas concerned" he said.

Meanwhile Uggah advised community leaders here to ignore claims that those found supporting Salang, who is the one and only BN candidate for Julau, would have their contract terminated or that they would not be reappointed when their current term expired.

"How can this be when both the federal and state governments are BN and all those with the "dacing" or scale sign are BN candidates...Those making the claims have their own personal agendas," he said.
