Mokhzani belittles recipients by questioning BR1M - Hishammuddin
BENTONG, May 4 (Bernama) -- Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir's moves to question the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) seemed to be belittling the people who needed help, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
Hishammuddin, who is also UMNO vice-president, said with Mokhzani's status as a millionaire without position in any political party, he has no credibility to dispute the Barisan Nasional (BN) aid that proved to be of great benefit to the people.
"If they want to set aside BR1M, tell Mokhzani to help the needy ... I don't think he has any problem because he has a lot of money.
"Everyone knows BR1M is accepted by the people and for him (Mokhzani) to say that BR1M is not needed by the people ... because he doesn't know their difficult situation and need help," he said.
He said this when met by reporters after the leader-meet-the people event at the Felda Lurah Bilut's Dewan Semai Bakti here today that was also attended by BN candidate for Bentong parliamentary seat Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and BN candidate for the Bilut state seat Jason Poo Mun Hong.
Mokhzani was reported to have said this in his talk on the opposition stage at the Felda Sungai Tiang, Pendang, Kedah, last night.
According to Mokhzani, even though the government was happy to be able to help the people through BR1M, the people actually forgot the aid was an indication that they were unable to support themselves.
Commenting further Hishammuddin said the Mokhzani statement also seemed to belittle the opposition's manifesto to continue with the aid if it succeeded in taking over the country's administration.
"Therefore, I think he has no credibility and position in the party to give such comments," he said.
