RM25 million allocation for Sungai Petani if BN wins - DPM

SUNGAI PETANI, May 4 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has offered a RM25 million allocation for the Sungai Petani parliamentary and three state constituencies if the Barisan Nasional (BN) wins all the seats in the 14th general election (GE14).

He said from the amount RM10 million would be specially allocated to the Sungai Petani parliamentary constituency for the construction of a 2,000-capacity hall and sports complex here.

He said the Pantai Merdeka, Bakar Arang and Sidam state constituencies would be given RM5 million each.

"I feel sorry for the Sungai Petani voters for having to endure the heat under this tent. With an air-conditioned hall we won't have to suffer like this.

"If Shahanim (Datuk Shahanim Mohamad Yusoff) wins the Sungai Petani parliamentary seat, the government will definitely implement these two things (the hall and the sports complex), while the three state constituencies will enjoy other facilities," he said in his speech at a programme with the people here tonight.

Ahmad Zahid said he would assist Shahanim in realising her manifesto should BN succeed in recapturing the Sungai parliamentary seat from the opposition in the general election.

He said among the essence of the manifesto which the government could implement was to ensure zero dilapidated homes in Sungai Petani, establish a rural industry and women entrepreneur transformation centre, a special disaster fund and a boarding school.

"All these can definitely be implemented in the next five years because our government is not bankrupt as our finances are well-managed," he said.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said BN needed a victory in the Sungai Petani parliamentary and three state constituencies in a bid to win a bigger majority and strengthen the BN government in Putrajaya.

He said this was to ensure that the government could implement more development programmes in Kedah and nationwide.
