Indians have benefited from Najib's leadership, says Samy Vellu
KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (Bernama) -- Former MIC president Tun Dr S. Samy Vellu believes the majority of Indians will continue to vote for the Barisan Nasional (BN) under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who has contributed much for the community since taking over the party in 2009.
The Malaysian Special Envoy to India and South Asia for Infrastructure said Indians had been loyal to the BN and would not abandon the coalition because they knew that only the BN could continue to deliver for their well-being and build a better future for the community.
"I believe that with the efforts undertaken by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, we can count on the Indian votes to be delivered to the BN to ensure the coalition's victory in the 14th General Election (GE14) so that no one is left behind," he told Bernama in an interview here recently.
He said it could not be denied that Najib had done a lot to transform and uplift the socio-economic status of all races, especially the Indian community.
"He is the only prime minister who established a special government department with the post of director-general for the Indians.
The former works minister also noted that Najib had allocated huge funds for the development of Tamil schools, temples and community halls, apart from creating many other socio-economic programmes for them.
On Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's call on Indians to 'eliminate' the MIC, Samy Vellu said that could be Dr Mahathir's personal opinion.
Admitting that GE14 was an uphill task for MIC candidates, he was however, confident that experienced government and party leaders would emerge victorious and continue to be the voice for Indians.
