Najib wants BN to recapture Sungai Siput
SUNGAI SIPUT, May 5 Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants Barisan Nasional to win the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat in the general election on May 9 and prove wrong the critics who regard it as a difficult seat for the BN to recapture.
"I urge the BN to recapture Sungai Siput. We lost 1-2 previously but I want us to win, not 2-1 but 3-0," he said, referring also to the state seats of Lintang and Jalong within the parliamentary constituency.
Sungai Siput was held by Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj of PSM in the last parliament, Lintang was held by Datuk Zolkafly Harun of BN and Jalong by Loh Sze Yee of DAP.
In GE14, Sungai Siput sees a four-cornered contest among Dr Jeyakumar, Datuk Seri S.K. Devamany (BN-MIC), S. Kesavan (PKR) and Ishak Ibrahim (PAS). Jalong is contested by Gerakan Wanita chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe while Zolkafly is defending Lintang.
Addressing the 'Hebatkan Negaraku' (Make Malaysia Great) programme at the Convention Centre here today, Najib urged the people of Sungai Siput to give BN the mandate to enable it to bring about a transformation in the constituency that has a mixed group of people including Orang Asli.
"All of us need a transformation. Give BN the mandate on May 9 and, God willing, Sungai Siput will transform under the BN administration," he said to the applause of over 1,000 people who had filled the convention centre.
Najib also announced that the BN government would upgrade Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bawong into the first fully residential Orang Asli school in Malaysia.
He also said that it would build a fully residential Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama in Lintang, a Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil in Salak, and more houses for the Orang Asli and 500 units of houses under the People's Housing Project here.
