Terengganu BN optimistic of capturing seats in Dungun
DUNGUN, May 5 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) is optimistic of wresting back the Dungun parliamentary seat and three state seats in the constituency, as well as retain the Bukit Besi state seat, in the 14th general election.
Dungun UMNO division leader Datuk Din Adam said the confidence was based on the systematic strategy implemented by the coalition since five years ago by ensuring the welfare of the people in the constituency, regardless of their political affiliation.
"After given the mandate as Dungun UMNO division leader, the party machinery and I personally go to the villages to see to the needs of the people, on how we can assist them.
"After identifying their problems, we submitted applications for the budget from the authorities to help the people," he told Bernama here.
Din, who is also Dungun Development Officer, said the Dungun UMNO had been to all villages in the constituency, from the most isolated, such as Kampung Pasir Raja in Hulu Dungun, which is in the Bukit Besi state constituency, to villages in the Paka, Rantau Abang and Sura state constituencies.
"I see the current political scenario favouring the BN and InsyaAllah (God willing), this will contribute to the party's victory," he said.
Meanwhile, former Dungun Member of Parliament Datuk Rosli Mat Hassan is also confident of BN wresting back the Dungun parliamentary seat and at least two of the state seats in the constituency, namely Rantau Abang and Paka.
"Bukit Besi is already a BN stronghold, it's our white area. For Sura (state seat), we feel it is going to be quite tough, but with the political experience of our woman candidate Datuk Zainun Abu Bakar, it is not impossible for the people to vote in our favour, a chance for them to have a woman exco (in the state government)," he said.
Rosli said he believed the failure by PAS to bring change and development in Dungun would make the voters want to give BN the win this general election.
"If we ask PAS the reason for no development (in Dungun), the answer is because they are not the government , but when they (PAS) were the government in 1999 to 2004, there was also no development.
"They did build one or two mosques, but we (BN) we complete the projects," he added.
Rosli said the party machinery should be united and internal bickering should be avoid to ensure victory for BN.
"I have told the election machinery, we should be together to win, have to work hard. If we sabotage the candidates, the candidates loose nothing, but it's the people who will suffer.
"If they are not satisfied with any of the candidates, it's normal . There is no need for us to look at the candidate, we vote for the party," he said.
Sharing Rosli's views, is former Rantau Abang assemblyman Datuk Za'abar Mohd Adib, who said various programmes had been carried out by the party for the young people.
"We have an increase of new voters, about 12,000 people, and nearly 50 per cent of them are young voters," he said.
Based on the Electoral Roll, there are 90,506 voters in the Dungun parliamentary constituency.
