Sarawak govt has political will to secure resources for development projects - CM
KUCHING, May 5 (Bernama) --The Sarawak state government has the political will to secure financial resources to implement various initiatives and development projects to drive the state's economic growth at a faster rate.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said apart from the many development projects which have been completed, there were more projects being planned specifically for the well-being of the people in Sarawak.
He said certain quarters especially the opposition had questioned how these high-cost large-scale projects being planned could be implemented because they purposely did not want to see or accept the successes being achieved by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
"As what the late Tok Nan (Tan Sri Adenan Satem) used to say, they have eyes but fail to see, have ears but fail to hear, have mouths but fail to speak," he said in his speech at the opening of the Sejiwa Senada programme at MJC Batu Kawa here today.
He said that those who have eyes, should be able to see the development progress, such as the development of the Pan Borneo Highway, small towns now developed as big towns, light rail transit services plans, road facilities, bridges, and other ever increasing projects.
As for those who have ears, Abang Johari said they should listen to what the people need and work hard towards fulfilling their needs, adding that those with mouths should talk on the government's successes in every sector, in order for the people to know who they should choose to represent them.
In the GE14, the Stampin parliamentary constituency will witness a straight fight between Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) president, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and Sarawak DAP chairman, Chong Chieng Jen.
Abang Johari said the time has come for residents in the Stampin parliamentary constituency to choose between a doctor (Dr Sim is a cardiologist) and a lawyer (Chong) as their elected representative.
Kuching is the third location for the Sejiwa Senada programme after Miri and Saratok. The programme serves as a platform for the public to get services, information and advice from the government in an effort to improve the socio-economic and living standards of the people.
A total of 140 booths have been set up for federal and state government agencies, government-linked companies as well as the private sector to serve some 5,000 visitors expected at the two-day event beginning today.
