Armed forces personnel in Lebanon cast ballots as early voters

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Armed Forces officers and men serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peace mission cast their ballots in early voting in the 14th General Election (GE14) Friday and Saturday.

In a statement here, the Malaysian Battalion 850-5 (Malbatt 850-5) said the 806 officer and men exercised their right to vote at polling stations in the Tibnin Camp yesterday and the Marakah Camp today, from 8am to 5pm.

"The Marakah Camp recorded the highest number of early voters, at 450. The Tibnin Camp saw 208 people show up, as 148 of the peacekeepers are voting in Malaysia because they are on leave," it said.

Meanwhile, Malbatt 850-5 commander Col Khairul Anuar Ab Aziz said all the officers and men had fulfilled their responsibilities as voters although some of them had just returned from patrol duty outside the camp.

Also present was Malaysian Ambassador to Lebanon Mohd Aznor Mahat, who was at the Marakah Camp to witness the process.

Malbatt 850-5 embarked on the peace mission on Sept 7 last year. The group is expected to end the mission on Sept 20.
