Four political party supporters detained in Segamat

SEGAMAT, May 6 (Bernama)-- Four supporters of a political party have been arrested and are in remand for four days beginning today in connection with criminal incidence during the campaign period for the 14th General Election (GE14).

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said police were investigating the reports under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and also Section 509 of the same law for making gestures with intention to insult the modesty of another person.

The four suspects are in remand for four days from today to facilitate police investigation, he told reporters when asked on the arrest of the four political party supporters.

He was met after the opening of the High Profile Policing with the Segamat district community at Segamat Sentral by Bukit Aman criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, who represented Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

Mohd Khalil said the Johor police had received 94 reports over various incidents in connection with campaigning for the GE14 since nomination day on April 28.

However, only 34 cases were identified with criminal elements, he added.

Meanwhile, Wan Ahmad Najmuddin advised supporters of political parties to abide by the country laws and that the police would not hesitate to take action against them for violating the law.

"The situation in the country is under control and the police is always monitoring the situation," he said.
