BN to continue to empower Pondok Institution in Kelantan
JELI, May 6 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Barisan Nasional (BN) will continue to empower pondok institution in Kelantan in tandem with the federal government's policy in focusing on Islamic religious learning centres in the country's development.
Its Chairman, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed , said the commitment was in line with the pledges in the Kelantan BN manifesto for the 14th General Election (GE14).
"The pondok institution is an important product in Kelantan to produce Islamic religious scholars who are also involve in the country's development," he told reporters after visiting the Pondok Al-Quraniah in Chegar Bedil here today.
Mustapa, who is International Trade and Industry Minister, said empowering the pondok institution would require looking into its policy, basic facilities and curriculum.
"We want the pondok to produce religious scholars who not only master Islam, but also in other fields of knowledge and skills," he added.
Mustapa, who is defending the Jeli parliamentary seat and the Air Lanas state seat, said efforts would be made to resolve the water supply problem at Pondok Al-Quraniah, which is about 1.2 kilometre from the Jeli-Dabong main road.
The pondok school began operation about a year ago and has 13 students.
