PENAMPANG, May 6 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that Barisan Nasional will retain Putrajaya by winning the 14th general election (GE14) this Wednesday, because of the support of the people throughout the country.

He said this confidence was due to the support of the people, which he described as "phenomenal´, including from Sabah and Sarawak.

"I have every confidence..,of the support of the people of Sabah and Sarawak as well as in the other states.

"We will definitely win. Be sure that BN at the federal level will be a true friend of the people of Sabah, " he said at a gathering with the people here tonight.

Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and Acting President of UPKO Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau who is also the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, as well as the BN candidate for the Penampang parliamentary seat Caeser Mandela Malakun, candidate for the Moyoq state seat Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin and candidate for the Kapayan state seat, Datuk Francis Goh.

Najib also expressed confidence that BN would wrest the Penampang parliamentary seat as well as the two state seats under it, Moyog and Kapayan, which were lost to the opposition in GE13.

"This (the Penampang BN spirit) convinces me that we have a chance to win in Penampang. Last time, we lost 0-3. This time, we will win 3-0, " he said.

Najib also said he had big plans for Sabah after GE14.

He then urged the people of Sabah to give a big mandate to him and BN to make the development agenda for the state a success.

He said he often visited Sabah and listened to the woes of the people in Sabah, and as such, had given a large allocation for development, including the toll-free Pan Borneo Highway.

He lambasted Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad whom he said had dreams of becoming the prime minister again, but "(Dr Mahathir) never came to Sabah to campaign (for GE14).

"He (Dr Mahathir) wants to become prime minister again, but he never even came to Sabah for one day to campaign.

"If the people of Sabah do not like Dr Mahathir, reject the opposition and support BN (in GE14), " he said.

Najib also said a prime minister cannot neglect any state, including Sabah.

"This means that in his head, he never thinks of the people of Sabah, in his heart, he has no love for the people of Sabah, " he said.

"I (Najib) love Sabah. That is why I gave a lot of allocations for Sabah´s development, " he said.

Najib also said BN pledged to create a special unit for non-Muslims which would be placed under the Prime Minister´s Department.

He said the unit would function as a government referral centre on affairs relating to non-Muslims without jeopardising the rights and position of the Muslims as enshrined in the constitution.

"Peaceful co-existence is a part of the teachings of Islam, " he said.

Najib also reiterated his readiness to return the rights of Sabah in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) which the Federal Government had taken.

"If we (the Federal government) took the rights of Sabah in MA63, I am willing to return them to Sabah, " he said.
