Ge14: 142 Police reports lodged in KL - CPO
KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- The police received 142 reports on offences relating to the 14th General Election (GE14) in the federal capital since the campaign period began on April 28, said Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim.
He said of the cases reported, eight were being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code, one under Section 232 of the same law and five under Section 24B(10) of the Election Offences Act 1954.
Police also received a report from a political party member alleging that the party was engaged in slander propaganda, he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent here today.
Mazlan also said police had opened 25 investigation papers so far.
Meanwhile, he said 198 permits were issued to political parties to hold talks throughout the campaign period.
Mazlan said police also found that five political talks in the federal capital were organised without permit.
"As such, we will open investigation papers under Section 24B(10) of the Election Offences Act 1954," he said, adding that activities such as distributing pamphlets and meeting the voters at local markets do not require such a permit.
In Kepala Batas, Penang police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan said 120 reports were lodged in the state since the nomination day.
"We have opened 15 investigation papers and all are still under investigation," he told reporters after attending a social welfare programme between the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and Royal Malaysia Police at the Sithi Vinayagar Temple here today.
The programme was officiated by Penang UMNO Liaison Committee Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, who is also Barisan Nasional candidate for the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat.
