Easier acquisition of land for ECRL project if BN regains Selangor - Noh
KLANG, May 7 (Bernama) -- The land acquisition process for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project linking Pengkalan Kubor to Port Klang will be much easier if Barisan Nasional (BN) is given the mandate to regain power in Selangor in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Selangor BN chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar said that it would also ensure that the proposed alignment of the project would not cut across areas and settlements where people live.
"If BN wins, the land acquisition process will be easier and we will discuss the possibility of diverting the alignment so as to not pass through settlements," he told reporters after attending a briefing on the project at Kampung Sungai Sireh Tambahan here today.
Prior to this, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai was reported as saying that the Selangor government had yet to give its approval for the land acquisition for the ECRL project and it seemed as if the state was denying the people's aspiration for development.
The construction of the 688-km ECRL project will link the east coast states. The first stage will see the rail line going through Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Selangor with a 531.6 km alignment and 68.7 km deviation range.
