Beware of confusing campaign at the last minute
PUTRAJAYA, May 7 (Bernama) -- The people must be wary and not be influenced nor confused by the various psycho-social manipulation through virtual campaigning at the last minute before the 14th General Election on Wednesday.
Chief executive officer of the National Professors Council (MPN) Prof Datuk Raduan Che Rose said the campaign on the social media was expected to continue although the Election Commission (EC) had stipulated that the campaigning period would end at midnight tomorrow.
"Virtual campaigning at the last minutes was expected to be even worse and exposed to distortion and fake news because at that time certain groups were desperate to canvass for votes," he told reporters after the discussion session on the national economic strategy at the MPN headquarters, here today.
He explained that among the manipulation of facts disseminated to the community previously was that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) purportedly had caused the rise in prices of goods and the cost of living, thus burdening the people today.
Meanwhile, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs) Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzil Che Din also did not discount the possibility of aggressive campaigning including personal attacks through the social media before the people went out to cast their ballots.
"Such action is akin to a last minute sprint," he added.
Thus, the voters must empower their mind so as not to be influenced by these negative news, added Mohamed Fadzil.
