Discharge responsibility to vote on Wednesday
PUTRAJAYA, May 7 (Bernama) -- Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa has urged civil servants throughout the country to discharge their responsibility to cast their ballots for the 14th general election (GE14) on Wednesday.
"Go out and vote. The government has given a holiday (on May 9). Discharge your duty to the nation with full responsibility," he said when delivering his message to the staff of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) and the agencies under it, here today.
Speaking to reporters after delivering the message, Ali said he would be voting at a polling centre in Precinct 9, here and planned to go out as early as 8 am.
He added that this would be the first time he was voting in Putrajaya because previously he was a registered voter in Petaling Jaya Utara.
The Election Commission (EC) had set May 9 for polling day for the 14th general election and early voting on May 5 while nomination day was on April 28.
Consequently, the government declared May 9 as an additional holiday for the whole country.
According to the electoral roll for the fourth quarter of 2017 which was gazetted on April 10, the total number of registered voters for GE14 was 14,940,624.
Last Saturday, 83 per cent of the 278,590 members of the security forces and their spouses who were early voters had cast their ballots.
