Tun M has mortgaged Malay nationalism for power - Azalina

KOTA TINGGI, May 7 (Bernama) -- Former UMNO leader Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is seen to have mortgaged the Malay nationalism he had fought for all this time, for the sake of gaining power and office, according to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

The Barisan Nasional candidate who will be defending the Pengerang parliamentary seat said Dr Mahathir's recent claims that he had a 'non-Malay' political philosophy since long ago wasn't true at all.

"Tun (Dr) Mahathir has been a Malay nationalist from the past, but suddenly, because he wants to get power, seats and post, he can mortgage Malay nationalism.

"This kind of leader is very dangerous, he can jump wherever he wants and do unlike what he preaches," she told Bernama when met at a meet-the-people session here, today.

According to Azalina, Dr Mahathir should emulate fifth prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who despite not having an active role in the government is still firm in his stand.

"Pak Lah (Tun Abdullah) has been consistent, though he is not in power, he still supports our cause (UMNO and BN)," she said.

Meanwhile, Azalina also slammed DAP's action of spreading three series of propaganda videos since yesterday, with the aim of attacking BN and defaming the party with slander.

"In relation to the videos, we will let the Anti-Fake News Act punish them later," she said.

According to her, DAP was no longer dignified, when it was willing to 'forego' its iconic 'rocket' logo, and instead contest under PKR's 'black eye' logo, which was clearly aimed at fishing for Malay votes.

Yesterday, DAP via its Facebook account, uploaded a series of defamatory propaganda videos acted out by Damansara parliamentary seat candidate Tony Pua, with the intention of inciting the people to believe their agenda.
