'Jom Bantu Rakyat' in Dungun, a boon to the people

DUNGUN, May 8 (Bernama) -- The 'Jom Bantu Rakyat' (Let's Help the People) programme, which is an idea of Barisan Nasional (BN) Dungun parliamentary candidate Datuk Din Adam last year has brought new hopes for 500 families in this district when their houses were restored and repaired under the programme.
Even though BN managed to win only one of the four state seats in the parliamentary constituency, the people continued to be assisted with various programmes.
Din said the 'Jom Bantu Rakyat' was only one of the dozens of programmes implemented in Dungun in the last five years.
"Through the programme, BN with the cooperation of the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK) selected the houses to have the water piping or electrical wiring system repaired.
"Most of the houseowners are senior citizens, single mothers, families with disabled children as well as families with household income below RM2,000. We also provided furniture and other household items such as bedroom sets, dinning tables and chairs as well as fans and cooking stoves.
"On the overall, the Jom Bantu Rakyat costing almost RM700,000 have reached the target groups and we are happy to see the occupants in each of these houses smiling again," he told Bernama today.
In the 13th general election (GE13), PAS won the Dungun parliamentary seat and three state seats - Sura, Paka and Rantau Abang while BN could only defend the Bukit Besi state seat.
Asked on BN's potential to recapture all the areas under the opposition, Din said BN is very confident of winning Rantau Abang as it only lost narrowly by 141 votes in GE13 and in fact BN also has a good chance to wrestle Paka and Sura from PAS as the votes for PAS is split with PH candidates in the two seats this time.
"BN also has the advantage of bringing development while it also touched the emotion of voters through its going to the ground approach carry out since 2013 and not just during election season but every time the people were hit by disasters...we help the people without discriminating their political leaning," he said.
From the strong Dungun BN leadership, federal leaders succeeded in building a new hospital and the Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) in Bukit Besi as well as more than 229 units of houses by a subsidiary of Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) in Paka.
The construction of the Azizulhasni Awang Velodrome and sports complex were built in Dungun in appreciation of the world cycling champion, a Dungun boy who put the name of the district in the world map.
