Son of late PAS Kedah MB joins UMNO
GURUN, May 8 (Bernama) -- The son of the former Kedah Mentri Besar the late Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak, who held office while with PAS, has announced that he is joining UMNO.
Ahmad Faiq, 30, who joined PAS at the age of 18, made the announcement in front of thousands of Barisan Nasional (BN) members during the Jerai Parliamentary constituency's Blue Wave Assembly for the 14th General Election (GE14), at the BN Command Centre in Jerai, here today.
Also present, were Jerai UMNO division chief and BN candidate for the Jerai parliamentary seat Datuk Seri Jamil Khir, candidate for the Sungai Limau state seat Datuk Norma Awang (BN), Guar Chempedak state seat candidate Datuk Dr Ku Rahman Ku Ismail and candidate for the Gurun state seat Datuk Boey Chin Gan.
At a press conference later, Ahmad Faiq said he made the decision after getting the views of his mother and his wife.
"My mother gave me her blessing, she said choose any party except Amanah because Amanah was my late father's opponent," he said.
The seventh of eight siblings said he was aggrieved at the way PAS treated him, as if he was nothing to the party, after his father died.
"I joined UMNO, on the basis of democracy and the right to vote as a Malaysian, so I chose the BN," he said, confirming submitting the membership form to the Jerai UMNO division leadership today.
