GE14: Respect democratic rights, don't follow emotions when voting

KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 (Bernama) -- Ahead of the 14th General Election (GE14) tomorrow, voters are asked to respect their democratic rights to determine the future of the country and not to follow their emotions when voting.

In SEGAMAT, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam who is defending the Segamat parliamentary seat reminded voters to make the right choice and select candidates based on performance and party so that the Barisan Nasional (BN) has no problem in winning the election in style.

"My message today, the last day of the campaign, is that voters should not make decisions based on emotions but look back at what the BN government has done thus far," he told reporters after attending the Segamat Residents Friendly Gathering and the inauguration of Dewan Muafakat Taman Yayasan today by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Dr Subramaniam urged all voters to go to their respective polling stations early to discharge their democratic responsibility.

In REMBAU, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, echoed the same and urged the people to think maturely and give the BN a chance to ensure that the country continues to be well-governed.

Khairy, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth chairman and UMNO Youth chief said, "I hope voters won't be swayed by the opposition's propaganda and fail to make a wise choice. I believe they will decide wisely tomorrow and not be led by emotions or fall prey to slander and incitement".

"We (the BN) are not perfect but we have brought much development and well-being to the people and I hope BN is once again given the opportunity to serve the country and the people for the next five years," he told reporters after a lunch programme with residents of Kampung Sepri here yesterday.

This time around, Khairy will be defending the Rembau parliamentary seat against PAS candidate Mustafa Dolah and PKR candidate Lt Col (B) Roseli Abdul Ghani.

In JERLUN, the BN candidate defending the parliamentary seat, Datuk Othman Aziz, called on voters to make a wise decision in determining the leader who will administer the area and not be swayed by emotional sentiments.

This, he said, was because BN had given the best service during the last five years and it was up to the voters to evaluate their performance over the years.

"Anyway, I'm am sure the 54,132 registered voters in the parliamentary constituency are mature enough to make a choice, they will support by translating votes based on reality and not emotions, reality meaning what the government has done for them over the years," he said when met by reporters at his office.

In KANGAR, the BN candidate for the Sena state seat, Azihani Ali reminded voters to be mature and rational and avoid making emotional decisions in selecting their elected representatives tomorrow.

She said that based on past records, it was clear that only BN was capable of forming the government and governing well.

"It's fun to see what the opposition has to offer, but they are splitting up and recently there were PKR followers who called me to inform that they will be voting for BN because they're frustrated," she told Bernama after meeting with voters in Kampung Salang.
