Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri votes in SMK Bukit Baru





MELAKA, May 9 (Bernama) -- Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Khalil Yaakob voted at the polling station in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Baru in the general election today.

He arrived at the station at about 11 am, accompanied by Melaka Police chief Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan and Melaka Election Commission director Haelmy Mohd Hanifah.

Mohd Khalil, who is a voter in the Hang Tuah Jaya parliamentary constituency and the Bukit Katil state constituency, cast his ballot and exchanged greetings and chatted with the other voters there.

The Bukit Katil seat sees a three-cornered contest among Barisan Nasional new face Yunus Hitam, Melaka Amanah chairman Adly Zahari (PKR-Amanah) and Muhamat Puhat Bedol of PAS.

Former Melaka Chief Minister Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam (BN) and PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin are in a GE13 repeat contest for the Hang Tuah Jaya seat, with Dr Md Khalid Kassim of PAS also in the fray.

Hang Tuah Jaya has 89,364 electors.
