Polling stations closed at 5 pm sharp - EC Chairman

PUTRAJAYA, May 9 (Bernama) -- All the 8,253 polling stations throughout the country closed at 5 pm today as gazetted under the Election Commission Act, said EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah.

He said the EC would not entertain voters who arrived after 5 pm at the polling stations.

Speaking to reporters at Menara SPR here, Mohd Hashim said dissatisfied voters could file their protest petitions at the courts.

"The voters should know that polling ends at 5 pm and should plan their time to vote, and not turn up at the last minute," he said.

He said that from time to time, the EC had informed the public through the media of the polling hours.

"The problem is that there are voters who postpone voting because they do not want to queue. For instance, if they come at 3 pm, there is a high possibility that there is not enough time to vote," he said.
