Sarawak BN still has strong voice in parliament - CM
KUCHING, May 10 (Bernama) -- Though the number of seats won by Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th General Election (GE14) is lower compared to the number won in GE13, it still emerged victorious, said Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari.
He said the total number of seats gave Sarawak a strong voice in Parliament.
For the parliamentary seats in Sarawak, the Election Commission (EC) through its official website confirmed that BN had won 18 seats, DAP (six), PKR (four), two other seats were won by Independent candidates, while the winner for the Baram parliamentary seat has yet to be announced, even if the unofficial result indicates that it has been won by BN.
The figures show a significant difference compared to the GE13 results in 2013 which saw Sarawak BN obtain 25 seats, compared to DAP's five and PKR's one.
The Chief Minister, when met while leaving the state BN operations room at the old Sarawak State Legislative Assembly building tonight, said BN's failure to garner a higher number of seats in the general election this time was largely due to national issues.
