Mahfuz Omar retains Pokok Sena parliamentary seat




POKOK SENA, May 10 (Bernama) -- Datuk Mahfuz Omar retained the Pokok Sena parliamentary seat with a 5,558 vote-majority in a three-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS candidates in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Mahfuz, of Amanah, garnered 28,959 votes to defeat PAS' Radhi Mat Din, who polled 23,401 votes, and Datuk Said Ali Syed Rastan, of BN, who garnered 18,390 votes.

Meanwhile, for the state seats in the Pokok Sena constituency, Salim Mahmood of PAS won the Bukit Lada state seat with a 1,285-vote majority in a four cornered fight. He polled 9,573 votes.

The other contenders were BN candidate Datuk Ariffin Man (8,288 votes), Mohd Aizad Roslan (PKR-PPBM), who obtained 6,337 votes and Independent candidate Datuk Mohd Ismail Othman, with only 444 votes.

As for the Bukit Pinang state seat, Romani Wan Salim (PAS) beat PKR's Dzaher Ahmad and Dr Mohammad Nawar Ariffin (BN) with a 3,212-vote majority. The trio polled 10,432; 7,220; and 6,289 votes, respectively.

Meanwhile, Tan Kok Yew of PKR-DAP retained the Derga state seat after defeating Yahya Saad (PAS) and Datuk Dr Cheah Soon Hai (BN-Gerakan) with a 5,265-vote majority.

The results were announced by returning officer Faudzi Ahmad at the vote tallying centre at the Sekolah Menengah Sains Pokok Sena Hall here.
