Mukhriz wins Jerlun parliamentary seat
JERLUN, May 10 (Bernama) -- Former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who contested the Jerlun parliamentary seat in the 14th general election (GE14) on a PKR-PPBM ticket today, won the seat with a majority of 5,866 votes.
He garnered 18,695 votes, defeating incumbent Datuk Othman Aziz (BN) who received 12,413 votes and Abd Ghani Ahmad of PAS (12,829).
The announcement was made by Jerlun parliamentary constituency returning officer Mohamad Subhi Abdullah at Sekolah Menengah Sains Kubang Pasu here.
Meanwhile, for the Kota Siputeh state seat, Dr Salmee Said from PKR-Amanah won with a 1,467-vote majority.
He beat new candidate Ahmad Azhar Abdullah (BN) who got 5,795 votes, while Mat Rejab Md Akhir (PAS) obtained 5,798 votes.
The Ayer Hitam state seat which was previously held by Mukhriz, was won by Azhar Ibrahim from PAS with a 537-vote majority.
He defeated Datuk A. Aziz Mohamod (PKR-PPBM) who garnered 8,692 votes and Datuk Abu Hasan Sarif (BN) with 7,220 votes.
