PAS given mandate again to administer Kelantan




KOTA BHARU, May 10 (Bernama) --PAS, which has been in power in Kelantan for 28 years, is given the mandate by the Kelantan people to continue to administer the state again in the 14th General Election (GE14) yesterday.

The results of the election saw PAS winning 37 of the 45 state seats, with the remaining by Barisan Nasional (BN).

There were also candidates from PKR, PSM and Independent contesting for state seats, but all of them lost in the contest.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah, during a media conference in Kuala Lumpur, said until 12.38 am today, PAS had won with a simple majority in the state, having won 28 seats then and BN, with seven seats.

Besides retaining the 32 seats which it won in the 13th General Election in 2013, PAS succeeded in capturing four more seats in this election, namely Selising, Semerak, Pengkalan Kubor and Dabong, as well as Guchil, which were previously under PKR.

The 32 seats retained by the party are Kelaboran, Pasir Pekan, Wakaf Bharu, Kijang, Chempaka, Panchor, Tanjong Mas, Kota Lama, Bunut Payong, Tendong, Pengkalan Pasir, Meranti, Chetok, Gual Periok, Apam Putra, Salor, Pasir Tumboh, Demit, Tawang, Pantai Irama, Jelawat, Melor, Kadok, Bukit Panau, Kemahang, Limbongan, Gaal, Pulau Chondong, Temangan, Kemuning, Mengkebang and Manek Urai.

As for BN, the coalition retained the Air Lanas state seat through the incumbent assemblyman, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, who is also Kelantan BN chairman, as well as the state seats of Kuala Balah, Bukit Bunga, Gual Ipoh, Kok Lanas, Nenggiri, Galas and Paloh.

Meanwhile, Kelantan PAS commissioner Datuk Ahmad Yakob, in his speech before the party supporters at the State PAS Liaison office tonight, said an announcement on the setting up of the state government would be made at 10 am today.
