Big win for PH in Penang
GEORGE TOWN, May 10 (Bernama) --Pakatan Harapan (PH) has clinched more than two-thirds majority in Penang after garnering 37 of the 40 state seats in the 14th General Election (GE14).
According to the official website of the Election Commission, PH, comprising Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), DAP, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and Amanah, also won 11 of the 13 parliamentary seats in the state.
Penang has 40 state seats and 13 parliamentary seats.
DAP won in all the 19 state seats contested by the party, namely, Padang Kota; Pengkalan Kota; Komtar; Bagan Jermal; Bagan Dalam; Sungai Puyu; Datok Keramat; Pulau Tikus; Air Putih; Tanjong Bunga; Perai; Jawi; Sungai Pinang; Batu Lancang; Seri Delima; Air Itam; Paya Terubong; Berapit; and Padang Lalang.
PKR won in Pinang Tunggal; Telok Ayer Tawar; Seberang Jaya; Penanti; Machang Bubuk; Bukit Tengah; Bukit Tambun; Sungai Bakap; Sungai Acheh; Kebun Bunga; Batu Uban; Pantai Jerejak; Batu Maung and Pulau Betong.
PPBM won in Bertam and Teluk Bahang while Amanah in the Permatang Pasir and Bayan Lepas state seats.
Barisan Nasional (BN) won in the Sungai Dua and Permatang Berangan state seats while PAS won in the Penaga state seat.
For the Parliamentary constituencies, DAP won in Tanjong; Bukit Bendera; Bagan; Bukit Gelugor; Jelutong; Batu Kawan and Bukit Mertajam while PKR won in Permatang Pauh; Nibong Tebal; Bayan Baru; and Balik Pulau.
The two Parliamentary seats which were won by BN were Kepala Batas via UMNO candidates Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican and Datuk Shabuddin Yahaya in Tasek Gelugor.
