Sarawak BN wins 19 Of 31 parliamentary seats, loses six




KUCHING, May 10 (Bernama) -- The 14th general election (GE14) yesterday saw DAP retaining its five parliamentary seats it won in Sarawak in GE13 and added another one seat while PKR won four seats this time.

In this regard, Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP) lost six of the seven seats it contested while Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) won three of the six seats it controlled earlier and Parti Demokratik Progresif (PDP) won two.

Meanwhile, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB) led other state Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties in winning 13 seats even though it suffered a shocking defeat in Puncak Borneo, the first PBB parliamentary loss in 30 years.







The breakdown of the 19 BN parliamentary seats in Sarawak is PBB (13 seats) , SUPP (one seat), PRS (three seats), PDP ( two seats) while DAP held six seats, PKR four seats and Independent, two.

The overall results in Sarawak were seen as meeting the target as expected by Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who was confident of increasing BN's parliamentary seats from 25 in GE13 to 28 in the current general election.

The most intense fight between state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen with SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, saw Sim losing and now SUPP has only one seat in Serian constituency won by Datuk Seri Richard Riot.

Just a few days before the nomination of candidates. PRS had taken the drastic measure of sacking two MPs in Selangau and Lubok Antu, nonetheless party fell in both areas.

Another seat which slipped away from PRS was the Julau seat which saw its four-term MP and secretary-general Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum losing to independent candidate Larry Sng Wei Shien, a former PRS member.

PDP was also surprisingly beaten in Mas Gading while in Saratok which was earlier represented by Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom who quit the party to set up Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) came back as a partyless candidate to contest on BN ticket in the election









Meanwhile, several local media reported on various issues linked to Genot@ Jeannoth Sinel, the defeated PBB candidate at Puncak Borneo which was attributed the unsuitable selection of candidate.





In GE13, BN won 25 seats compared to five by DAP and one by PKR.
