Pakatan Harapan forms government in Melaka




MELAKA, May 10 (Bernama) -- The Pakatan Harapan (PH) has succeeded to form the state government in Melaka with a simple majority after winning 15 of the 28 state seats in the 14th general election (GE14).

Based on the official results announced by the Election Commission (EC) as at 2.09am today, the Barisan Nasional only managed to win 10 state seats, PAS (0) while winners of three other seats have yet to be announced.

However a check on the EC website revealed that BN had won the three seats, bringing the total number of seats won by the BN to 13.

The state constituencies won by PH were Rembia, Gadek, Machap Jaya, Durian Tunggal, Paya Rumput, Kelebang, Pengkalan Batu, Ayer Keroh, Bukit Katil, Kesidang, Admiral, Duyong, Bandar Hilir, Telok Mas and Bemban.

In the contest for the Hang Tuah Jaya parliamentary seat, PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin once again defeated his challenger Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam, this time with a greater majority of 8,640 votes compared to 5,477 votes in the last general election.

In addition PH also captured two parliamentary seats namely, Alor Gajah through Mohd Redzuan Yusof and Tangga Batu through Prof Madya Rusnah Aluai, while Khoo Poay Tiong retained the Kota Melaka parliamentary seat.

BN only succeeded in defending two parliamentary seats namely Masjid Tanah through Puteri UMNO chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin and the Jasin parliamentary seat through Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah.
