Kedah MB loses seat, PH takes over Alor Setar and three state seats
ALOR SETAR, May 10 (Bernama) -- Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah failed to defend his Suka Menanti state seat in the Alor Setar parliamentary constituency in the 14th General Election.
Ahmad Bashah only managed to garner 7,050 votes compared to PKR candidate Zamri Yusuf who polled 13,301 votes to win with 6,251-vote majority.
PAS candidate Mohd Sabri Omar only garnered 4,580 votes.
Pakatan Harapan candidates also won in two other state seats in the Alor Setar parliamentary constituency, namely Darul Aman and Alor Mengkudu.
In a four-cornered fight for Darul Aman state seat, Teh Swee Long (PKR-DAP) defeated BN candidate Tan Eng Hwa, PAS' Zulkifli Che Haron and Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) Tan Kang Yap with 8,468-vote majority.
Teh garnered 11,737 votes to claim the seat, leaving Eng Hwa with 3,269 votes, Zulkifli (1,732) and Kang Yap (32).
Incumbent of Alor Mengkudu state seat Ahmad Saad@Yahaya (PAS) failed to defend the seat that he won in the last election.
Ahmad Saad lost to Datuk Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi (PKR-Amanah) with 1,876-vote majority.
Phahrolrazi who garnered 8,840 votes also defeated BN candidate Abdul Malik Saad who polled 6,434 votes, while Ahmad secured 6,964 votes.
Meanwhile, in a three-cornered fight for Alor Setar parliamentary seat, Pakatan Harapan candidate (PKR) Chan Ming Kai won with a majority of 15,200 votes.
Chan garnered 32,475 votes to defeat BN candidate Yoo Wei How (14,181) and PAS Muhammad Aminur Shafiq Mohamad Abduh (17,275).
A total of 65,096 voters cast their votes in Alor Setar.
