PAS central leadership to decide PAS' role in Kedah
ALOR SETAR, May 9 (Bernama) -- Kedah PAS is awaiting the decision of its central leadership regarding the next move to be taken after the party won 15 of the 36 state seats in the 14th General Election (GE14).
State PAS commissioner Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Sheikh Fakhrurazi said this was despite the party failing to form the state government, after losing to Pakatan Harapan (PH), which garnered the majority 18 state seats.
"To form the new Kedah state government a simple majority of 19 state seats is required.
"PAS is fortunate to have raised the number of state seats to 15, it also won the three parliamentary seats of Jerai, Pendang and Sik. Only the number of state seats is preventing PAS from forming the government. However, PAS is ready to play any role, be it the state's opposition or the government, depending on the decision of PAS' central leadership.
"If we become the opposition, we will become a strong opposition and if we form the government, what is most important is to form a politically stable government," he said in a special media conference at the Kedah PAS Complex in Kota Sarang Semut, near here early this morning.
PH controlled Kedah after winning 18 of the 36 state seats contested in GE14. BN won three state seats and PAS 15 seats.
