Singapore ready to host Trump-Kim historic meeting on Jun 12





SINGAPORE, May 11 (Bernama) -- Singapore is ready to host the first ever meeting between United States President Donald J Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un on June 12.

"We hope this meeting will advance prospects for peace in the Korean Peninsula," said Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement issued late Thursday.

Earlier, Trump announced the date and location for the historic meeting via his Twitter account.

The highly anticipated meeting between Kim Jong Un and myself will take place in Singapore on June 12. We will both try to make it a very special moment for World Peace!, he said.

It was reported that the choice of Singapore for the landmark meeting was announced in a presidential tweet just hours after Trump welcomed to the United States three American prisoners released by Pyongyang.

Meanwhile, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong regarded the meeting as a significant step on the path to peace .

May it lead to a successful outcome, he said in reply to Trump's tweet.
