Osman Sapian is 16th Johor MB

JOHOR BAHRU, May 12 (Bernama) -- Kempas state assemblyman Datuk Osman Sapian was today sworn in as the 16th Menteri Besar of Johor in Istana Bukit Serene, here.

According to the official Facebook page of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar received his instrument of appointment and took his oath of office at 3.06 pm before Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, at the palace's Balai Mengadap.

Present at the ceremony were Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail and husband of Tunku Puteri of Johor Tunku Tun Aminah, Dennis Muhammad Abdullah.

Among those present were also Johor PKR chairman Hassan Karim and Johor Amanah president Aminolhuda Hassan.

In the Facebook page, Sultan Ibrahim said he was ready to work with the menteri besar and offer advice from time to time.

He also reminded Osman to execute the duty entrusted to him earnestly and to ensure that the Bangsa Johor were always united.

Osman, 67, who is the secretary of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Johor PPBM replaced Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin from Barisan Nasional (BN) as menteri besar.

PH obtained the mandate to form the state government after winning 36 state seats in Johor in the 14th general election (GE14) while BN garnered 19 seats and PAS one seat.

Osman, who faced BN candidate Datuk Ramlee Bohani and PAS candidate Dzulkifli Suleiman in a three- cornered fight, wrested the Kempas seat with a vote majority of 9,178.

He was the incumbent for the Kempas seat under the BN for three terms from 1999 until 2013 before being dropped in the 2013 general election.
