Osman Sapian is Johor's 16th menteri besar




JOHOR BAHRU, May 12 (Bernama) -- Datuk Osman Sapian, who was sworn in as Johor's 16th menteri besar today, is from Segamat, Johor.

He was the Kempas state assemblyman for three terms from 1999 to 2013 under the UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket before being dropped in 2013.

The 14th general election (GE14) saw Osman, 67, who contested on a Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) ticket, wresting the seat back from BN.

He obtained 21,137 votes to beat BN's Datuk Ramlee Bohani who received 11,959 votes while PAS candidate Dzulkifli Suleiman obtained only 2,321 votes.

The Johor PH and PPBM secretary was the Party Social Rakyat Malaysia (PSRM) Youth Leader in 1974, before joining UMNO in 1988. He joined PPBM in 2016.

The businessman was educated at Sekolah Menengah Tengku Mahmud Iskandar, Pontian and Sekolah Menengah Sultain Ismail, Johor Bahru.

He also obtained a Certificate of Accountancy from the Metro Manila College in Manila, Philippines and a Diploma and Bachelor of Accountancy from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia.

With wide experience in the political arena of Johor, especially in accounting and administration, Osman who was born on Dec 24, 1951 is married and has three sons and two daughters.
