Mat Sabu regards mandate as defence minister a big challenge
KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president, Mohamad Sabu, popularly known as 'Mat Sabu' who is named as Defence Minister today regards the mandate given to him as a big challenge.
Met after a media conference to announce the new Cabinet ministers by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Mat Sabu said he already has an initial plan to manage and administer the ministry.
"This is a big challenge to me, I will conduct a preliminary study and hold a meeting with all the senior officials of this ministry."
"I want to know what's going on in this ministry and what needs to be done as well as recommendations that will be brought up," he told reporters after the media conference at the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) headquarters in Menara Yayasan Selangor, near here.
At the media conference, Dr Mahathir also named DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng as Finance Minister and PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Home Minister.
Elaborating further Mat Sabu said, among others, he also wanted to study all reports relating to land belonging to the armed forces that had allegedly been privatised.
"I will look into it," he added.
