Perak BN accepts defeat

IPOH, May 12 (Bernama) -- The Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) has accepted its defeat in the 14th General Election (GE14) as a transformation that supports the democratic system.

Its chairman, Datuk Zambry Abd Kadir said he also appreciated the deeds and support given by the people, especially members of the party in the effort to maintain the BN as the ruling government.

He said Perak BN would continue to function as well as carrying out the role of an efficient and competitive opposition to balance the administration of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) led state.

"We need to get up or in other words, if there is a weakness to be fixed and if there is a mistake, we should self-reflect and correct.

"To all Perak people who voted BN at GE14, I express my highest appreciation, let's us together make sure the peace and stability of Perak continue to be preserved," he said when met at a press conference here today.

The outcome of GE14 saw PKR winning 31 out of 59 state seats after two of the Perak BN assemblymen left the party.

It also resulted in Perak BN winning only 25 from 27 seats previously while PAS, only three seats.

Commenting on the action of two BN assemblymen who jumped ship, Zambry said it was a surprise but the decision had to be respected by all parties.

He said the people would also be able to assess their action.

Meanwhile, Zambry, who was former Perak Menteri Besar, declined to comment on the identity of the two assemblymen concerned.

"Whoever they are.. (You) have to ask the new menteri besar. I don't want to comment more," he said.
