Chenderiang assemblyman is the new MB of Perak
KUALA KANGSAR, May 12 (Bernama) -- Chenderiang assemblyman Ahmad Faizal Azumu was sworn in as the new Menteri Besar of Perak at Istana Iskandariah here today.
The Pakatan Harapan Perak chairman took his oath office before Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak at 6.05pm.
Ahmad Faizal's appointment follows PH obtaining a simple majority of 31 seats in the 59-seat state assembly which enabled PH to form the new state government.
In the general election on Wednesday, Ahmad Faizal defeated Barisan Nasional's (BN) Chong Shin Heng and Nordin Hassan of PAS by a majority of 39 votes in the contest for the Chenderiang seat.
Ahmad Faizal polled 7,662 votes, Shing Heng (7,623) and Nordin (1,735).
Ahmad Faizal began his studies at Sekolah Kebangsaan Cator Avenue here before going to Sekolah Menengah Anderson and subsequently went to pursue a degree in business studies in Perth, Australia.
He had also been on the panel of thinkers of the Special Affairs Department and senior special officer to the Menteri Besar of Kedah.
He was also active as a humanitarian activist among others following the Freedom Flotilla mission to help the people of Palestime in Gaza.
