Aminuddin polite, values family ties, say siblings
PORT DICKSON, May 12 (Bernama) --After taking his oath of office as Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar and holding his first press conference, Aminuddin Harun returned to the home of his 104-year-old father, Harun Selamat in Kampung Pachitan here, to get his family's blessings.
Raised in the village along with his five siblings, the 51-year-old state Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman-cum-PKR chairman, s described by his family members as a good person who values family relationships, polite and possessing leadership qualities.
His second brother, Ismail, 72, did not expect to see such a historic day in their family when the youngest brother, whom he had once taught as a teacher at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tanah Merah (where Aminuddin received his early education), would be elected to lead the state.
"To me, I am very proud that my brother, who was also my student, has succeeded to this level to become the Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan...on behalf of my family, I am grateful for his appointment.
"I believe he can shoulder the responsibilities as a leader despite the many challenges...as the Menteri Besar, I am confident he will look after the interests of the people," he told reporters at his parents' residence here today.
Another brother, Mohd Amin, 54, recalled their journey in the political arena, including being scolded by their father when Aminuddin expressed his desire to contest in the Sikamat state constituency.
However, he said their father relented upon realising Aminuddin's real intention to contest and finally accepted their decision to be active in politics.
Meanwhile, Aminuddin said he was grateful to Allah for his appointment as Menteri Besar and promised to carry out his duties to the best of his ability.
"I take this opportunity to thank Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman, PH president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and PH's presidential council, among others, for the support and trust given.
Aminuddin, a three-term Sikamat state assemblyman since 2008, was sworn in today as the eighth menteri besar.
He took the oath of office before Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir at Istana Besar Seri Menanti here today.
