Respect the peoples's decision, trust during GE14 - Sultan Perak

KUALA KANGSAR, May 12 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah today called on all the elected representatives who had won in the 14th General Election (GE14) to respect the decision of the people and value the trust placed on them by the people.

He said the elected representatives must enslave themselves to serve the people who had voted for them and that this was a new trust.

"Discharge this responsibility and fullfil the trust with integrity," he said at the oath-taking ceremony for the newly appointed Menteri Besar at Istana Iskandariah, here today.

At the ceremony, Sultan Nazrin handed over the instrument of appointment of the Menteri Besar to the State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Chenderiang, Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Sultan Nazrin said the GE14 on Wednesday had demonstrated the maturity of the people in using their political rights to enable the election of the government, establish the government and allow the transition of power to be carried out peacefully.

His Highness also expressed appreciation to the various quarters who had given their commitment to enable all the processes concerned to be carried out peacefully.

"The general election has been concluded. The major post-election challenge is to reunite the people in the country.

"Reject the attitude of the winner takes all; while the loser loses all. Adopt the practice of listening to the people's voice with an open mind, and to be willing to admit mistakes and to be ready to correct the mistakes," the Sultan said.

Sultan Nazrin also congratulated Ahmad Faizal for getting the support of the majority of the ADUN besides getting the consent to discharge his responsibility as the Menteri Besar.

In GE14, Pakatan Harapan, which comprises the PKR, DAP, Amanah and PPBM won 29 State Assembly seats, while BN had 27 and PAS (3).

The outcome was that no party received the simple majority of 30 seats to form the state government, but the crisis ended today after two BN Assemblymen crossed over to join the PH which gave the coalition 31 seats.
