PH will accept BN defectors with conditions - Dr Mahathir

PETALING JAYA, May 12 (Bernama) --Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that Pakatan Harapan (PH) will accept Barisan Nasional (BN) defectors only if they are free from any court charges, and have renounced their allegiance to BN.

However, the Prime Minister said that each of the defectors will be watched, and the depth of their involvement with the previous government would be studied.

"The previous government was led by certain leaders. But if they (BN defectors) forswear their previous allegiance and are free from any charges, and they want to join any of the parties or become independents but support the party, we will support them," he told reporters to a question on why PH was taking in many BN defectors.

Earlier, Dr Mahathir announced the names for the three senior posts in the new Cabinet, namely PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the new Home Minister, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu as the Defence Minister and DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng as the Finance Minister.

In reference to Sarawak, Dr Mahathir said that discussions were still ongoing between PH and the state leaders.

"We meet a lot of people inside (Sarawak government) and we will view if it's beneficial for us or not and we will act accordingly," he added.

Yesterday Dr Mahathir held talks with Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud on the possibility of Sarawak BN becoming an ally in the new PH government.
