New Perak MB Ahmad Faizal clocks in
IPOH, May 14 (Bernama) -- Ahmad Faizal Azumu started work today as the new Menteri Besar of Perak.
Ahmad Faizal, 48, attired in a black suit and sporting a red tie, arrived at the State Secretariat building here by 8 am and was greeted by the officers and staff of the Office of Menteri Besar.
He was accompanied by State Financial Officer Datuk Mohd Ghazali Jalal, who is acting State Secretary, and several Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders.
Ahmad Faizal, who is PH Perak chairman, then attended a briefing given by Mohd Ghazali.
Ahmad Faizal, who is the state assemblyman for Chenderiang, takes over as the menteri besar from Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir of the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) administration.
In the general election on May 9, PH, comprising PKR, DAP, PPBM and Amanah, won 29 seats in the 59-seat Perak legislative assembly. BN won 27 seats and PAS, three. No party had the simple majority of 30 seats.
However, PH formed the state government after two BN assemblymen crossed over to PH to enable it to have 31 seats in the assembly.
