Pardons Board to meet on Anwar's release tomorrow - Nurul Izzah
KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) -- The Pardons Board committee will meet at 5 pm tomorrow to discuss the application for royal pardon for PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
His daughter Nurul Izzah who is PKR vice-president said she was informed of the 5pm meeting by Anwar's lawyer, R. Sivarasa.
"5pm is only the beginning of the Pardons Board committee session, it will have consideration time and you have to wait...we are tight with procedure matters," she told reporters after visiting her father at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital here.
Asked if Anwar would be released tomorrow, Nurul Izzah said: "God willing, tomorrow."
In 2015, Anwar was sentenced to five years' jail after the Federal Court upheld his guilty verdict.
On Friday, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V had expressed his willingness to grant an immediate pardon to Anwar.
"It is a full pardon, which means he is not only given pardon but will also be immediately released," said Dr Mahathir.
