MELAKA, May 14 (Bernama) -- The new line-up of Melaka state executive councillors will be submitted to Melaka Yang Dipertua Tun Dr Mohd Khalil Yaakob later this evening for his consent, says newly-appointed Chief Minister Adly Zahari.

He said whoever would be appointed as new exco members would be from the existing 15 state assemblymen of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) after taking into consideration, among others, the composition of seats won by the PH component parties, their competency and experience.

"Thus far, we have not broken them down based on the party and are now in the midst of streamlining the portfolios."

"Key portfolios such as finance and land matters are still being held by the chief minister (Adly), while other portfolios are still being discussed. Previously, the then-chief minister held several portfolios and we will review them to focus on specific administrative matters," he told a press conference at the Seri Negeri Complex, Ayer Keroh here today.

In the 14th General Election on May 9, of the total 15 seats won by PH, eight were won by DAP, PKR (three), PPBM (two) and Amanah (two).

Meanwhile, Adly, who is also Melaka PH chairman, said budget and efficient financial management were the main focus of the newly-appointed Melaka Government, and it was in the midst of drafting various plans for the purpose of realising the goals.

He said the state government was also looking for opportunities to increase the revenue, among others, from the restructuring of land resources and tax methods without raising the rate imposed on the people.

"I have been informed about the state revenue and there are some surpluses as well as shortages. We will go through one by one to see what other opportunities for us (to increase revenue) and how to make savings in terms of management," he added.

Adly said that reviews would also be carried out on agencies and government-owned subsidiaries to identify agencies or companies capable of contributing to the state government and the people, or otherwise.

On allocations for the opposition-won constituencies, he said based on the principle of democratic government, elected representatives from the opposition parties should receive allocations to take care for their constituents.

"It's just a matter of how much the allocation to be given will be based on our assessment, by looking at whether they (people's representatives) should have offices or a secretary," he said.
