Anwar will bring changes to national political scenario - Rais

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) -- The release of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) defacto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to bring major changes to the national political and administrative scenario, says former foreign minister Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim.

"After Anwar is released, a lot of attention will be on him because the people want to know the policies that he will introduce for the country's future," he said, adding that Anwar was expected to introduce many new aspirations.

"We have to look at these aspirations because Anwar may be the next prime minister after Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad), and this is a new breath of life for the country," he told reporters.

Earlier, he officiated the Malay-Chinese Civilisation International Conference held at the International Institute of Islamic Civilisation and Malay World (ISTAC) here today.

Rais said the new government (Pakatan Harapan) must maintain the spirit of togetherness and not succumb to Barisan Nasional's weaknesses, such as money politics.

He also hoped the process of obtaining the pardon for Anwar went smoothly.

"The committee involved in the process must look at every procedure so that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong can make a decision that is within the law," he said.
