Hard work to restore country's financial health, says Lim

GEORGE TOWN, May 14 (Bernama) -- Finance Minister designate Lim Guan Eng said the ministry needed to work hard in restoring the financial health of the country.

"It is indeed a heavy responsibility but we will make the effort because of the people's support. I promise and pledge to commit myself to fighting for the people in Penang and Malaysia everyday," he said at a gathering, 'Sekalung Budi Membina Harapan' at Padang Kota here tonight.

Also present was new Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and state PH leaders.

Disclosing he had seen the national financial statement, Lim who is also Bagan member of parliament declined to elaborate, saying he had not taken his oath as finance minister.

He gave the assurance that the PH government would fulfil every promise it made in its 14th general election manifesto but hoped the people would give them some time.

"For 61 years BN made mistakes and had done wrong. All these cannot be righted in one night or one day. We need time. We hope the people will give us time; all our promises will be fulfilled," he said.

Meanwhile, Chow thanked the people in Penang for giving victory to PH to rule the state for a third term.

In GE14 on May 9, PH won 37 of the 40 state seats and 11 of the 13 parliamentary seats.
