KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama) -- PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar described the news on the release of her father, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is expected to be freed tomorrow as a special gift for Ramadan.

"We have missed so many Ramadan and I think that is the sweetest gift ever for the family and extended family in Permatang Pauh," she said when approached by reporters after visiting her father at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital, here.

Nurul Izzah said the petition efforts seeking for a pardon for Anwar which began in 2015 eventually succeeded.

"We have always been fighting beside him in pursuit of reforms for justice...it is not just about my father, but doing this is because of justice," she said.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V has consented for a meeting of the Royal Pardons Board to process the pardon and release for Anwar to be held tomorrow.

Anwar, 71, served a five-year jail sentence in February 2015 after the Federal Court maintained the guilty decision for sodomising his aide.

Anwar, who was imprisoned at the Sungai Buloh Prison, was earlier scheduled to be released on June 8.
